It all started when I blogged a vegetarian recipe of tofu cheese with chive buds. In my post, I whined a bit about how expensive imported fresh chive buds were in January. Almost immediately after my posting, there were positive tips on growing these tasty and pretty plants myself.

So I bought a bag of chive seeds the next day. That was late January of year 2013.
The chive seeds were indeed planted by my twin girls in a pot indoor. After two months of enjoying pretty sprouts in my kitchen, I found it difficult to transplant the hair thin plants from my pot to the garden. It was not what I envisioned of digging a small hole and planting the sprouts. I had to just leave the sprouts in clusters on the ground, hoping for the best.

Pretty Chive Shoots
The first Spring and Summer, nothing happened.
This late Spring, I had the pleasant surprise of seeing chive flowers for the very first time! One small cluster of chive seeds made it in my backyard. Image may be NSFW.
