The first time I saw this beauty is from a fellow blogger’s Gravatar profile image. Then I saw it in person in Fern Canyon.
It’s stunning! Her name is Columbia Lily.
Columbia Lily is native to Western North America. They start to bloom everywhere in summer close to the border of California and Oregon.
Several West Coast and Californian Native American tribes in Columbia Lily’s range used its bitter or peppery-tasting bulbs as a food source. That reminds me the fact lilies are staples in Chinese diet, both the bulbs and flowers. If you ever tried the dish named Mu Xu Pork (aka. Chinese Burrito) in a Chinese restaurant in the United States, Xu (aka. palpus) should be made of dried lily flowers. Chinese Probably used Day Lily flowers rather that this gorgeous Columbia Lily for cooking.
